Shown in a candlelit tunnel in a disused warehouse space, this, not to put too fine a point of it, is McQueen’s vision of hell. Early 19th century vampires as portrayed in both Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula and Neil Jordan’s Interview With A Vampire are the principle inspiration but references from Performance, Nosferatu and From Hell also play their part lending this collection a highly cinematic mood. McQueen also looks at traditional Baltic folkloric dress, Korean embroideries, cut and proportion, English hunting clothes, Oliver Twist-style urchins and Jack The Ripper, hence the blood red moon.
